Shenzhen is a city of parks, in fact there are so many it can be hard to know which one to go to. Whether it be a post lunch walk or an early morning stroll there is a park in Shenzhen for everyone. The problem is, (and it’s a nice problem to have) is which park to go to. Shenzhen is officially a garden city due to its ample green spaces so the choices are abundant. This is a run down of the top 10 park options in the city (in no particular order).
Before you read, I know I’ve left some out. I simply had to stop somewhere. Parks such as Donghu, Zhongshan and Lixiang are also nice and deserve a visit. If you feel there are other parks that deserve a mention, please leave a comment below.
1. Lianhuashan Park 莲花山公园
The biggest and most well-known of all the parks in Shenzhen. This is a stalwart of Trip Advisor top 10 things to do. A good choice for a lounge on the grass or a picnic and a great place to fly a kite. You can also ‘hike’ (climb endless stairs) to the top and see a statue of famous Deng Xiaoping and have a magnificent view of the Civic Center below you. One of the easiest and safest choices. It’s also my first choice for a ‘park at night’ because of the phenomenal views below you.

2. Litchi Park 荔枝公园
Perfect for a daytime stroll this is a popular park but not overly busy. You can walk around the lake or even boat on it. There are also some nice photo opportunities of KK100 and the Diwang Building which jump out at you. If you love Deng Xiaoping, there is a with a ginormous portrait of him outside the park gate. This is one of my favorites too and it is a nice place to stroll or rest.

3. Bijiashan Park 笔架山公园
One of my favorites. This park covers a huge area and has tons of trees to provide shade for a midday walk. There is a cornucopia of nature but beware of the snakes! A short hike up the stairs gives you a stunning view of the city vista below. The lack of people makes this great for a head clearing stroll.

4. Central Park 深圳中心公园
Benefits of this are its central location (as you can tell from the name) and the abundance of green space. Sporting facilities also available here such as tennis and football. There is a small stream down the middle and a nice bridge to walk over. Good for a bike rides too. It doesn’t get the recognition it deserves and it is one of my favorites.

5. Shenzhen International Garden and Expo Park 深圳国际园林花卉博览园
This is a mixture of different style gardens from all over China. The park is aged but has a unique charm –this is my absolute favorite park. Check out the pagoda early in the morning for the monk’s daily worship. Lots of charm in this park and I’m sure you’ll love it as much as I do. It is for sure one of Shenzhen’s hidden gems and its one of my go to places for a quiet stroll and to enjoy some beautiful nature.

6. Shenzhen Bay Park 深圳湾公园

Perfect place for a bike ride by the ocean. Be warned however, the park can be a madhouse on the weekend. It’s also a nice spot for a picnic under a palm tree too. Popular location morning, noon and night. The path connects all the way to Sea World with multiple start and end points. You can also connect to Talent Park or Dasha River from here, and its a wonderful walk. It’s a good place for bird watching also. Please note bikes are not permitted on weekends.

7. Shenzhen Talent Park 深圳人才公园
One of my favorite parks in the area, this is a wonderful place to visit both day and night. At night it is lit up and looks quite magnificent and during the day you can see the artistic statues that are dotted about. There is a running track, lots of green areas and rest stops. You can get a good view of the ‘Spring Bamboo’ (China Resources Building) and you can also connect to Shenzhen Bay MixC Mall or to Shenzhen Bay Park.

8. Honey Park 香蜜公园
This is another of Shenzhens urban city parks, centrally located and very easy and convenient to get to. This park is immaculate and clean. It’s green, colorful and also has a large rose garden. A nice small pond is in the middle, and this park has an abundance of nature and animals. Highly recommended.

9. Fairy Lake Botanical Gardens 仙湖植物园
More of a botanical garden than a park, it deserves a mention due to its popularity and high position on TripAdvisor and Lonely Planet. There is so much to do and see here, this is an entire day trip of its own. From the butterfly garden to the petrified forest, Buddhist temple to the lake the options are varied and wonderful. This is one of the best places in Shenzhen in my opinion and it is really worth the time and effort to go there.

10. Hong Hu Park 洪湖公园
Located in Luohu district, this park has a large lake which (when in season) has an abundance of colourful lotus flowers. If you go during this time it’ll be packed with locals taking selfies everywhere. The best part about this park (and lesser known) is the graffiti wall.
This is a long wall that goes from one side of the park to the other and has an array of spray paint graffiti on it. Most definitely a hidden Shenzhen secret.
